DRAMATURGY and MENTORING

I have served as a dramaturg and mentor for many artists in Aotearoa, particularly Queer and BIPOC artists. Here are some testomonies from people I have worked closely with over the years.

Nisha is singular in her ability to reconfigure a process, a form, a work, to encompass multitudes. Her engagement with the arts is at once philosophical, activist and solidly pragmatic. Working with Nisha has nudged me at vital moments into places with wider horizons, more astute criticality, and a more collective orientation to what art is for. Alongside her technical understanding, management prowess, and embodied knowledge of her craft, Nisha offers artists something even more rare and precious – a shimmering sense of possibility. – Jessie McMcall, Choerographer

Nisha has an amazing capacity to see clearly all layers of dramaturgy, from the individual moment to the socio-political context. If you want to talk to one person about your work, let it be Nisha with her massive brain and enormous generosity of spirit. – Joel Baxendale, Creative Director

Nisha has directed me, dramaturged my work, and been a mentor of mine for years. Working with her always feels like a homecoming. She challenges me to extend myself and my thoughts, but always in accordance with the objectives I already have for the work. Her direction is, in my opinion, the best kind, always sharpening the voice and the message, always honing in on what the artist already wants to achieve. – Saraid DeSilva, Writer
